Hook Hooks Patrick
The first match was a bad one for Old Bovs.
Fighting to recover from a 50 deficit on the first innings against Central, the side had three men run out through bad misunderstandings and left Central a neat half hundred to get for a maximum win. Three wickets were down for six, but then Hook came in and promptly proceeded to knock off the required number.
Feature of Old Boys’ batting on Satj urday was a stubborn knock by Whoi lan, who carried his bat for 29. It I was unfortunate that he should be I mixed up in the three run-outs. | Ex-Wairarapa rep. Bruce Patrick, j showed form with the ball that might take him places in Whangarei cricket. Bowling with the wind, he worked up a nice turn of speed—not above medium—but impressed more through "his ability to conceal, a slower off-
break. He collected two wickets with this ball and skittled Cunis with a faster one of perfect length. He was inclined to drop many of his deliveries a little short, however, and Hook did not hesitate to bring his powerful hook shot into action. / These and straight drives, and punches through the covers, kept the scorei's busy.
Macnay stayed with his captain while 27 runs were added.
