Mine Official’ Overcome By Gas ?
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. When Mr A. Roland, a deputy examiner at Ohai, employed at the Linton mine, failed to return to the surface at his accustomed time yesterday a search party comprising the manager, underviewer, deputy and rescue station manager searched the mine. Mr Roland was eventually found and brought to the surface. A doctor pronounced life extinct. Deceased was examining deputy on the early morning shift, and indications were that he had been dead some time. It is probable that he was a victim of noxious gas.
Deceased, who was about 60 years of age, leaves a grown-up family.
Level Crossing Death
(P.A.) INVERCARGILL. This Day. James Crane, a single man of Waikoura. was killed instantly when the truck he was driving collided with the Invercargill-bound mixed goods train from Wairio at \Vaikoura crossing, yesterday morning. Mr Crane was returning to his farm from the dairy factory when the collision occurred.
