Retirement Of Lieut.Colonel E. L. G. Bown

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The retirement of LieutenantColonel E. L. G. Bown, 0.8. E., was announced today by the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones). Lieutenant-Colonel Bown joined the Ist NZEF in December, 1914, and. after serving overseas, where he was wounded, he was commissioned in the Staff Corps in 1919. Cn the outbreak of the last war he was chief ordnance officer at the main ordnance depot, Trentha'm, and also commanding officer of the NZAOC. As such, he was responsible for equipping all the armed forces in New Zealand and the Pacific, and for maintaining clothing requirements of the 2nd NZEF in the Middle East. The Minister stated that LieutenantColonel Bown had been a most popular and efficient officer, and his retirement would be felt both by his corps and the Army as a whole.
