Seaside Cottage For Mothers Proposed

(Special.) KAITAIA, This Day. Ladies of the Kaitaia branch of the WDFF exerted lavish hospitality on Tuesday to delegates to the first Northland six-monthly inter-provincial WDFF conference yet to have been held in Kaitaia.

It was decided to send the provincial president and secretary to the next inter-provincial conference, to-be held in Whangarei in March. Members regretted to hear that the projected trip to Amsterdam of the Dominion president (Mrs Elliott) had been cancelled, but noted that the funds raised for the purpose were to be held as an overseas fund for the next conference of countrywomen in Australia. It was decided to start a fund with a view to buying a seaside cottage to let to country mothers. delegates were pleased to learn that the Waimate North branch has been re-formed. The housekeeping secretary (Mrs K. Buckle) gave her report, showing nine engagements for 31 weeks’ work. REMITS FOR CONFERENCE Several remits were passed. One of these dealt with the need for an overhaul and expansion of the architectural branch of the Health Department, Wellington, so that urgent hospital building plans might be expedited. Another, originating through the shortage of nurses, suggested raising of pay in the profession and alteration of various systems now in vogue that were considered as being factors in making nursing less attractive than other careers for girls. Delegates were asked to send donations towards a gift of linen, greenstone, paua shell and kauri gum made to Viscount Montgomery. NZ. PRESIDENT’S VISIT An itinerary was agreed upon and hospitality arranged for Mrs Elliott’s forthcoming visit to Northland. The Dominion president will leave Whangarei on October 22 by air for Kaitaia, will be in Kaeo on October 23, Kaikohe the next day and Pakaraka a day later. Horeke will be invited to meet her at Kaikohe, and Waimate North at Pakaraka. From there she will go on to Dargaville. Mrs G. E. Killen, of Kaikohe, who had visited the Silverstream Hospital, Wellington, where neuro-muscular diseases are treated, gave a talk on Sister Dryden’s methods for treatment of infantile paralysis. Mrs Lane was made a life member of the division. She has been provincial president for 16 years. A hearty vote of thanks was passed and many words of appreciation were spoken for the hospitality and efforts of the Kaitaia branch members.
