Whangarei, Warkworth
“We should support any move to inaugurate specialist health services at some suitable Northland centre, and we should endeavour to gain access to the hospital at Whangarei and Wnrkworth for patients from the eastern parts of Otamatea.’’ “If amalgamation can be brought in upon a sound basis assisting ail concerned to receive more satisfactory services, then we should welcome such a move. Otherwise, we should give it no further consideration.’
Cr. W. Preston (Ruawai) said, the council should know the attitude of the Kaipara Hospital Board towards amalgamation mote clearly. Cr. W. S. Wallace: “Amalgamation could be of great advantage, but it is
a duty of the council to see that if it is introduced, it is moulded to suit the needs of all the Northland people. “When we hear the evidence to be presented by the Hospital Board we may find we are not fully in agreement, in case, we should send in a report of our own.” Mr Snelling said there would need to be a willingness to give and take if success was to be achieved.
The question of what town should be the main centre of the scheme should not cause difficulty.
The question of meeting the Hospital Board members, and preparing evidence was left in the hands of the sub-committee comprising the chairman and Crs Leslie and McCarroll.
