Spring Cattle Fairs Attract Most Notice

SPRING cattle fairs attracted most attention in Northland stock markets during the past week. Generally speaking, values were considerably higher than last year but fluctuations were reported from some sales. At Waiotira young cattle sold better than grown steers, while the reverse applied at Kamo where values for grown cattle were £1 to £l/10/- per head better than last year and prices for young steers were roughly the same as the previous spring fair.

Yard in gs were fairly heavy with about 1000 cattle at Kamo and about 700 at Waiotira. At other sales average numbers were penned. Unfavourable weather conditions did not help the major fairs, but values were not affected to any appreciable extent. Store cows changed hands at fairly expensive rates and a strong demand for this class of stock was noted at some sales. BEEF VALUES UP
