Bay Entertains Its Football Visitors
(Special) MOEREWA, This Day. The tradition of the best possible entertainment for its visiting challengers that the Bay of Islands has established this season was upheld on Saturday when Whangarei seniors and Auckland fourth-grade reps, were piovided with another of those lavish. 12 or 13-course dinners, complete with musical interludes.
Beche dc mar, croquets of inan.rra. roast cociiorel, roast pork, haunch of hogget, saute of veal, sirloin <■ f beef, cauliflower de-chsßol, pea.,, roast kumora and potatoes, various sweets and fruit salad, sherry trifle wonderfully adorned—all these and more graced the inside of the rouvenir menu. Toastmaster was Mr J. Cotter, who, after having proposed the loyal toast, called on the Whangarei team manager (Mr R. H. Cunningham) to honour the Bay union and XV. Mr I. H. Pausina responded for the union president (Mr H. T. Atkinsoru who was unavoidably absent, and Mr S. C. Pausina (vice-captain) replied for, the team.
The Whangarei union and team were honoured in Mr P. Sutherland’s toast. Mr S. Philpott (captain) responding. The referee's health was proposed by Mr Des Codling, who suggested- that sidelin.ers would greatly appreciate remote control of referees (Des was himself a sideliner during the game). Mr Rex Somerville responded. The selectors wo>’e toasted by Mr S. Downes. Mr ~,V. Barclay replying. An apology was tendered for the Whangarei selector (Mr M. McDonald). The Auckland fourth-graders, who had played the Bay third-grade in an excellent curtain-raiser, wore honoured by the Bay union secretary (Mr A. E. J. Corr). Messrs H. Taylor and T. Billingham, who was the visitors’ skipper, responded. Mr Taylor said he would endeavour to make the visit an annual fixture. He presented a golliwog with the Auckland colours to Mr Corr.
The hosts, officials, Press and traffic off icers were honoured in a toast given by Mr Cotter, replies coming from Messrs A. M. Campbell. F. Molesworth and R. Peters.
Vocal items were given by Messrs R. Somerville, M. Davis. K. Rika and S. Pausina. Mr A. G. Smith played ukelele items.
