New U.S. Freighter On First Visit To N.Z.

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. First of four new freighters built for the United States Pacific Coast-New Zealand-Australia run, the Matson Line steamer Sierra arrived today on her maiden voyage.

The vessel does 15 knots and has a cargo capacity of about 12,000 tons. She brought 51,000 ft of timber for New Zealand, 1400 tons of general cargo and 1638 bags of mail. She will proceed to Wellington, then to Sydney and Melbourne.
