uommanuer rfonnywill, R.N., and Commander Lewis, R.N., from H.M.S. Theseus, visited Paihia and the Waitangi National Reserve on Thursday and Friday, and returned to Auckland via the Waipoua Forest. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., and Lady Frey berg will pay a three-day visit to Gisborne and tne East Coast at the coming weekend. Their Excellencies will be. given a civic reception at Gisborne on Thursday.

Mr Mirza Raft, Pakistan delegate to the Canberra peace conference, accompanied by his military adviser, Brigadier Sher Ali Khan, left Auckland tor Sydney by air yesterday morning after a week-end visit to New Zealand.

The present Mayor of Wellington (Mr W. Appleton) has again been selected as the Citizens’ Association candidate for the coming mayoral contest. The Hon. Brooke Claxton, K.C., 8.C.L., D.C.M., Canadian Minister of Defence, will arrive at Auckland by flyingboat from Sydney tomorrow after attending the Canberra conference on the Japanese peace treaty. Mr Claxton, who will visit the Dominion at the invitation of the New Zealand Government, will be met by the Canadian High Commissioner, Mr A. H Rive.
