HOPES FOR DECISION ON WHARF CONTROL

(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. Hopes are entertained that a decision will shortly be reached on 'the proposed new waterfront commission, as a result of further meetings between the acting Prime Minister (Mr Nash) the Minister of Labour (Mr McLagan) and representatives of the employers and the union.

None of the parties concerned would comment on the subject yesterday, and Mr McLagan left for Christchurch last night without making a statement.

The New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union was represented by the president (Mr H. Barnes), the vice-presi-dent (Mr A. Drennan), and the secretary (Mr T. Hill). Mr Barnes left Wellington last night on a visit to the South Island, and Mr Drennan returned to Auckland.

It is thought likely that the commission will consist of six memoers, one of whom will be a chairman appointed by the Government. Two employers’ representatives and two union representatives and a Government advisory member without a vote will probably make up the commission.
