Woman Leads British TUC

(Rec. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 5. The TUC General Council elected Miss Florence Hancock, chief woman officer of the Transport and General Workers’ Union, as chairman. She will preside over the next TUC. Miss Hancock is 54. She was one of the joint authors of the 1945 report on domestic service for the Ministry of Labour. She was a member of the national advisory council for juvenile employment and of the standing joint committee of women’s organisations. She began work at the age of 12 as a washer-up in a cafe. She joined the Transport and General Workers’ Union at the age of 18.
