Archdeacon Alan Julian Petrie, vicar of St Mary’s Church, Merivale, Christchurch, died last night, aged 59. Mr Pv. G. Casey was unanimously elected Federal president of the Liberal Party, says a Melbourne message. An investiture was held at Government House yesterday by the Governor General (Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C.). A knighthood was conferred upon Major-General Sir Fred Bowerbank, E.D., honorary physician to the King, and he was invested with the insignia of Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Altogether His Excellency presented 50 orders, decorations and medals, and at the conclusion of the ceremony the assembled guests were received by Their Excellencies.
