Britain Will Win Through'

(Special) WELLINGTON, This Day. Britain and the rest of the Commonwealth had gone through some grim times in the First and Second World Wars, but had pulled through together, said the British 'Minister of Civil Aviation (Lord Nathan) in a broadcast address last night. •

Today Britain was facing the “Battle of the payments.” There was nothing in that battle to Are the blood, but if she failed to win it the effects would be felt all over the Commonwealth. Not Britain alone would feel the dire results, but also other countries in a greater or lesser degree. “We have been working hard,” Lord Nathan said.

“To show you how hard the people have been working, last year we made and exported a greater quantity of goods than in 1938. However, it has not been enough, for the prices have been against us.” Lord Nathan paid a tribute to the way in which New Zealand and other parts of the Commonwealth had helped Britain, and said the recent conference in Wellington had been a real encouragement, had warmed British hearts and had raised the spirits of the people there. For all that New Zealand had done he wished to say “thank you.” . , „ “Let me assure you that we shall win through,” continued Lord Nathan. He knew that New Zealand and the other countries in the Commonwealth would help, but in the long run it depended on the ordinary men and worqen living in Britain. They had not failed Britain and the Commonwealth in the past, and they wbuld not do so now. Britain was not depressed, but was bracing herself for the fresh struggle. “Once again Britain will save herself by her exertions and the world by her example,” Lord Nathan concluded.

“Come the world against her, Britain still will stand.”
