2 NZEF On Weaver Area

The Wedver property should be acquired as a public asset for future development, providing this action jdoes not seriously delay the construction of houses in Whangarei. This opinion was expressed in a motion approved by the 2nd NZEF Association last night. Mr J. R. McCorquindale* had moved that;

‘‘This meeting is convinced that the Weaver property should be acquired as a public asset for future development, and feels that acquisition of the property should not seriously delay construction of houses in Whangarei.’’ The association, he said; was young and virile and represented a good cross-section of the town.

He thought the question was one ih which members could interest themselves.

The chairman (Mr G. Gray) said he considered the area was unsuitable for housing. If children were forced to live there he thought there would be a considerable amount of sickness owing to dampness.

Mr J. Stewart: I live in Fourth Avenue and there is no great amount of sickness there.

“I cannot agree with the motion' said Mr J. H. Garland.

“The meeting is not well enough informed of tne facts.” He moved to amend the mation as stated and in this form the resolution was adopted.
