Explains Clauses In Arbitration Bill

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Explanations of various points in the Arbitration Amendment Bill, which have been the cause of many union objections throughout New Zealand, were given by the Minister of Labour (Mr McLagan) to the Wellington Trades Council.

The council decided to call a special meeting next Tuesday to consider the amendments.

The national council of the Federation of Labour is continuing its meeting in Wellington today and it is understood that Mr McLagan attended for the purpose of discussing the bill.

The trades council last night was attended by 102 delegates, who did not oppose substantially the principles of secret ballots, but further information was desired regarding other provisions, especially in connection with penal clauses. It is reported that the meeting was given some assurance that various changes are to be made in the bill. Regarding the aid for Britain campaign, the meeting expressed a desire for more detailed information about emergency measures which may be introduced.
