Egyptians Demonstrate

(Rec. 10.0 a.m.) CAIRO, Aug. 22. About 400 policemen and 100 mounted policemen battled with a crowd of more than 1000 demonstrating against the Security Council’s proposal to refer Egypt’s complaint against Britain to direct negotiation.

The crowds dragged the police from their horses and beat them with sticks.

The police opened fire and injured at least 10.

The police withdrew after a 10minue fight. A similar demonstration took place at Alexandria, where crowds gathered in the centre of the city and talked of “serious threats” if Egypt did not get satisfaction from the United Nations.

Police in Cairo arrested many/ and detained for questioning Shiek Hassan el Sana, leader of the Moslem Brotherhood.

Forty people, including 10 mounted police, were injured.

The Prime Minister (Nokrashy Pasha) sent a cable from New York condemning . the demonstrations as likely to do more harm than good to the Egyptian cause. He asked Egyptians to be patient. YOUTH UPSETS COUNCIL

A shouting gesticulating Egyptian spectator was ejected from the Security Council chamber today.

The council was about to debate the Egyptian question and had invited the Egyptian Premier (Nokrashy Pasha) to the council table when a demonstrator —a bearded youth named Mustafa Momen, who has been a frequent visitor at Lake Success recently —stepped into an aisle in the spectators’ section and began shouting demands that the British leave the Sudan immediately. He struggled violently and continued shouting as United Nations guards ejected him.
