Petrol Price Up A Penny

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The retail price of petrol would be increased Id a gallon as from today, announced the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Nordmeyer) last night. The Minister said that owing to advances in the landed cost of petrol it had become necessary to raise the wholesale and retail prices. Actually, landed costs had progressively increased to an aggregate of 2d a gallon since the last price adjustment was made, but the Government had decided to reduce the wholesale and retail margins each by £d a gallon. The consumer would therefore pay Id a 1 gallon more. The resellers’ margin, which is now 31d a gallon, has been reduced to 3d. This retail profit margin was increased from 3d to 3£d during the War, when rationing considerably reduced the amount of petrol sold, but after a careful examination of the present financial position of the industry the Government had decided to revert to the former margin, which was considered to be a fair one. j At main ports the new retail, price will be 2/8£ a gallon.
