Kaikohe Rugby Junior's Record

An enviable record has been established by the Kaikohe juniors, who are to play off with Kawakawa at neutral Okaihau on Saturday for the final of the Bay of Islands Rugby Union’s 1947 competition. In regular competition games they have scored 206 points, 36 being scored against them. In addition they beat Kaeo seniors 16—3, and in the seven-a-side tournament at Ohaeawai on King’s Birthday they scored 29 points and had only three scored against them. That is to say. in the season to date, they have tallied up no less than 251 points with 42 against. Biggest score was against Hareke, 53—0. Against Kerikeri they played two games, winning the first 45 —0, and drawing for the other at B—all. That draw was their only failure, to win. At the moment they hold all the trophies it is possible for a junior team to hold in the Bay. Next Saturday’s play-off will have as a cur-tain-raiser a trial game—if transport difficulties can be overcome—to give the best of juniors in all other Bay clubs a run. The sole selector (Mr S. Birchall) will be on hand with his eye fixed on possibilities for the Bay’s challenge for possession of the Brake Shield. The Bay drew first challenge and will thus meet last season’s victors, Whangarei, for Northland’s emblem of junior Rugby supremacy.
