Minister Rebukes Queensland Governor
CRpc.pived 1.10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. THE Minister of Immigration (Mr Calwell) criticise a statement by the Governor of Queensland (Sir John Lavai that it was undesirable to bring workers from Britain.
Sir John had said that Britain needed all her workers to help regain prosperity. Mr Calwell said that politics must remain with politicians. “l£ the Governor of Queensland wishes to enter into political questions he should relinquish his position and stand for Parliament,” Mr Calwell said. Onlv a few voices had been raised in verv reactionary quarters against bringing British migrants here. He hoped Sir John would not repeat his impropriety.
