No Trace Of Small Boat From Haere

A report of the discovery of a small boat which might have belonged to the auxiliary scow Haere, presumed lost on a voyage from Parengarenga to Auckland at the end of last month was checked yesterday by Constable R. T. J. McNeill, oi Houhora. He made a fruitless search by horseback of 14 miles of the coastline between Houhora and Kaimaumau.

The boat, described as a dinghy about 16ft long, was seen by a Maori on the coast several days ago, but the report was not received by the police until yesterday morning. All police stations in the North have been asked by the Mairne Department to check any reports which might * give a clue to the disappearance of the Haere.

Although it is possible that the boat was carried to sea by westerly weather after its discovery, Constable McNeill is continuing his patrol on horseback today.

Mr I. O. Parry, a director of the company owning the Haere, said last night that the scow’s lifeboat was nearly 15ft long, with four buoyancy tanks filled with kapok.

It was painted white outside, with the top strake painted with red oxide and the lining boards grey. The Haere also carried a flat-bottomed Bft .dinghy painted grey.
