TRIP FINANCE QUESTIONED
Should the North Auckland Power Board be bound by a decision made by its finance committee? asked Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay at a meeting of the board yesterday. He referred to a tour of the Waikato River hydro-electric works which is to be made by members of the board at the end of this month. The finance committee, at its last meeting, agreed that the travelling and accommodation expenses of members should be borne by the board, said Mr Mac Kay. “The finance committee is not the board,” he continued. The board was entitled to pay members all amounts actually and reasonably expended in attending meetings of the board or of any committee of the board, or in transacting any business of the board authorised by a resolution of the board. “If the chairman is prepared to take the responsibility. I am quite satisfied.” said Mr Mac Kay. "But we must not run away with the idea that a resolution passed by the finance committee is a resolution passed by the board.” The discussion lapsed when the chairman (Mr J. N. McCarroll* said: “That concludes the business of the board, gentlemen."
