Some Problems For Schools In England

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. “Schools in England are facing the same problems of overcrowding and shortage of staff as those in this country,” said Mr G. N. T. Greenbank, the new headmaster of King’s College, Auckland, who returned today in the Corinthic after a six months’ visit to the United Kingdom where he studied school administration and lastest educational developments. Mr GreenbrooK was educated at the Whangarei Boys’ High School. While he was in England the schoolleaving age was raised there to 15 and it was obvious that it would cause many “headaches” for the authorities and teaching profession, he said. “Under the new system, children at 11 years plus, are carefully examined as to aptitude and sent on to secondary schodls, parents hardly being consulted,” he added.

This was a revolutionary departure.

The older Public Schools were standing firm in their policy of providing a traditional classical education.
