President Bocks Universal Training
(2.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON. June 4. President Truman sent a message to Congress today urging early consideration of the proposed universal mili-' tary training plan which, he said, was vital to national security. He said it was significant that members of the advisory commission on universal training, comprising outstanding Americans in various fields unanimously recommended universal training. The commission’s report recommended that all physically fit males be required to undergo six months' basic military training on reaching the age of 18, or when they finished secondary schooling. They would later*be required to undergo training equivalent to an additional six months. Congress is not likely to act on the proposal this session.
