. SYDNEY, This Day. Entries received for the 1947 Melbourne Cup, to be run on November 4, total 522, a record for the race. Of these, 282 horses were nominated in Melbourne, 203 in Sydney, 22 in Adelaide, eight in Brisbane, and seven in New Zealand.
The previous record was 450. the number entered last year. The value of this year's race will be £IO,OOO and a trophy valued at £3OO. ,
There are 434 entries for the Caulfield Cup, to be decided on October 18, 194 for the Epsom Handicap, to be run on October 4, and 185 for the Australian Jockey Club's Metropolitan Handicap. set down for decision on October 6. All show an increase on the nominations last year.
