Report On Disputes

(Special) WELLINGTON. This Day. “Affiliations shall exploit all avenues of settlement before taking strike action."

This resolution, passed at the extraordinary conference of the Federation of Labour in January, was recalled in the executive's report to the annual conference of the federation now being held here. This resolution, the report stated, demonstrated that no affiliation of the federation would be permitted to implicate part or whole of the trade union movement in industrial, conflict without consultation with and endorsement by the federation of the methods to be applied to achieve the objective.

The report outlined the part played by the federation in attempts to settle the dairy workers’, Wellington tramwaymen and the Waterside Workers’ Union disputes.
