Noted Scientist Commits Suicide
(Rec. 12.40 p.m.) PARIS. June 4. Dt- Gustave Roussy. former rector of Paris University, who was awaiting trial for complicity in falsification and misuse of official documents committed suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping tablets last night on the eve of his appearance before the examining magistrate, says the British United Press Paris correspondent. The Council of Ministers today removed M. Roussy's name from the executive committee of the Order of the Legion of Honour. M. Roussy was one of France’s most brilliant scientists. He was advisor to the commissariate of atomic energy. M. Roussy was reputedly one of the richest men in France, with a fortune of over £2,000,000. He was one of the biggest shareholders of a noted milk products firm. Accusations against him were that he made profits of over 90,000.000 francs through fraudulent currency deals during the war and since liberation. His death created a sensation. Paris newspapers printed special editions.
