Radiators Banned Here Between 10am, 7pm
THE use of radiators and other electric space-heating equipment between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily is to be prohibited in Whangarei until further notice. After deciding that the only other alternative would be to place a 100 per cent restriction on the use ot water-heaters, the Whangarei Borough Council electricity load control committee reached this decision this morning.
Letters received by the committee stated that the power cuts in the industrial area of the town were costing i manufacturers money. It had cost the council bdtwoen ; £2OO and £4OO in respect of assist- | ants’ overtime, said Mr Jones. •

It felt that the danger and inconvenience to pedestrians far outweighed any savings that might be made by further reductions. The lights would not be switched on on moonlit nights. Provision for an overloading emergency was also made by the committee. It was decided that if an emergency should arise at any time, and particularly during the winter exhibition, it would be met by disconnecting various sections of the town in rotation, for periods of MO minutes. It was impossible to advise consumers of these cuts, if they were necessary. Mr .Tones said. “With the information I have. I am strongly of the opinion that unless wc keep the load down there is a danger of the authorities approaching us j on the subject." he added.
