Growing Shortage Of Wool Sen Goods
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day The shortage of all types of New Zealand-made woollen goods goes from bad to worse, and thousands of women are gcing from shop to shop in a vain efTort to obtain winter clothing for their families and themselves. This was stated yesterday by the spokesman for .the New Zealand Retailers' Federation when asked whether any improvement in deliveries from local woollen mills had become apparent during the last 10 days. He attributed the shortage to the continued delay by the Government either in granting a subsidy to the manufacturers or allowing an increase in price to ollsel the rise in the price of wool at the recent sales. The embarrassment of the general public was acute, but it was nothing compared with the lack of consideration of mothers of young children and expectant mothers, who were spending their time in visiting shop after shop in a futile search. “The Government’s delay in coming to a decision now amounts to a public scandal,” said the spokesman.
