Officers And Crew Walk Off Ship

(Special.) INVERCARGILL, This Day As a protest against the quality of the food supplied, officers and crew of the Federal Line steamer Devon, which is loading frozen meat at >Bluff, walked off the ship at 9 a.m. yesterday. In sympathy with them, the Bluff waterside workers ceased work on the ship. The only members of the ship’s crew, apart from the master, remaining on board were the catering staff against whom the complaint was made and the chief refrigerating engineer. After communicating later in the day with the company’s head office in Wellington, Captain Evans agreed to the men’s demands and the officers and crew returned on board at 7 p.m The watersiders also resumed work and the Devon will sail this afternoon for London.
