Trade Talks In Arrears

(Ree. 11 a.m.) LONDON. June 2. One efleet of the wool dispute between the United States and Australian delegates has been to delay negotiations between other delegations to the International Trade Conference, savs The Times Geneva correspondent. Consequently the trade-talk schedule Is in arrears. All pairs of negotiators were to have begun talks by May 30. but in some cases no contact has yet been made, beyond the formal exchange of oilers and concessions. It is not clear what effect a breakdown in American-Australian negotiations would have on the charter as a whole. . Some quarters take the view that under the most-favoured nation principle concessions to third parties aie concessions to the remainder. Therefore, Australia, by making concessions on certain commodities, could have made them to the United States and would still be entitled to come into the scheme. It is questioned, however, whether there are any such commodities.
