ATTRACTIVE CATALOGUE The catalogue of the eighth annual Winter Thoroughbred Sale to be held at the Epsom Showgrounds at 10.45 a.m. on Friday contains particulars of 70 lots. There are some superbly bred brood marcs and yearlings on offer as well as untried stock and racehorses, and the recently imported English stallion, KARNOOL. by the notable young sire, PANORAMA, who was unbeaten in seven starts as a two-year-old. There are seldom so many attractive mares on offer as appear in this catalogue. Lot 1 for example. GAY CITY, is a (ive-year-ok. mare by the champion stallion. FOXBRIDGE. and is closely related to good winners like MONTE CRISTO, ntNA. KRAAL, the great race-mare and Auckland Cup winner LOTTIE, and so on. This mare has been submitted lo the pregnancy test and has given a positive return to the service of the popular young sire, PROBATION, whose yearlings made a record at the National Sales for a first season sire. Her clam, CHASTISEMENT', in foal to MARBLE FAUN, another young imported sire, is also catalogued. An exceptionally attractive n:arc is the Phalerott bay mare. RAEWIN has an attractive filly foal at loot by CHATSWORTH and is in foa! to CONTACT. now also siring winners. There is also an English mare catalogued. SALMON BLONDE, a six-year-old brown daughter of the Goodwood Cup winner, SALMON LEAP, who is at the stud in France. The dam. ITALIAN BLONDE, is by the noted French sire. APELLE. son of the champion stallion, SARDANAPALE. while her grand-dam is by HURRY ON. This highly bred staying marc is directly descended from llie dam of that fine stayer. STEDFAST. who won both the Jockev Club Stakes and '.lie Coronation Cup, etc. She is tested positively in i'oal to MARBLE FAUN, half brother to the noted performer KHALED, who was unbeaten m England as a two-year-old. The Estate late Jas. Price, of Matamata. offers the NIGHTMARCH mare, MARCHPIIAR, a well bred South Island mare with a colt foal at foot by TE HERO and served again by that brilliant galloper. The Baffles mare, APPLES, from the same family as FOX--IANA and ARCO and coming from a sister to the N.Z. Cup winner. TORTULLA. has a fitly foal at foot by FEARLESS COMMANDO and is in foal to GREAT TRADITION, the latest sire to he imported descending from the great mare CINNA. The popularity of the new method of pregnancy testing is upheld in the catalogue, as there are no less lhan 11 mares which show a positive return to this test. In addition lo GAY CITY. Others tested include APPENDAGE, also served by GREAT TRADITION and bv GAINSCOURT from the Martian mare, BATTLE TORQUE and the attractively bred mare, FLYING SPRAY, a winner and a half sister to that good performer. FANTASTIC, whose daughter recently sold at Trenlhnm for 1550 mis., is tested in foal lo MARBLE FAUN. WATERLINE, who defeated PHAR LAP at w.t'.a. She is the dam of tiie recent winner. MISS CAROLINA, and has been served by BRER FOX, successful soil of FOXBRIDGE. In the same class as the dam of a winner is the Musketoon mare. MARINA, who has a colt foal at foot bv the sire of BEAU LE HAVRE, etc., in BEAU REPAIRE. Another winner-producing mare is ELLA BUNS3Y. ihe dam of FOXBUN. This close relative to BELLE STAR MAJORITY. MINORITY, etc., is by CORONACH'S staying bred half-brother. CAPTAIN BUNSBY. and is in foal to the ponular vounff son of BAHRAM in TREASURE HUNT, whose first crop of yearlings to be sold at the National Sales in January are certain to create great interest, as they arc exceptionally high class. He is at the Mardella Stud with PROBATION, whose first crop of vearlings made a great average a< the National Sales. Two very well bred mares, also tested ns positively in foal to this Son-in-Law horse are BARCOLE by THE .ACE and the Solicitor General mare. PRUDENT, which is also out of BATTLE TORQUE. This daughter of Martian, bred by Ihe late J. Buchanan, of Little River, Canterbury, is out- of the English mare TORQUATO, a relative of CORONACH, and is a sister to GAUNTLET, winner of six races, and to MARTIAL DAWN, the winner of seven, and the dam of the Grand National Hurdles winner, CALLAMART. BARCOLE also carried the blood of the ereat Martian and is from a noted Stonvliurst family. Her dam is a half sister to the Manawatu Steeplechase winner. BIRKOLOGY. and the high class fiat racer. TOWN MAJOR, being out of a sister to the N.Z. and Great Northern De>by winner, CHERUBINI. Another mare from this family is MISS CARDINE. by KINCARDINE. She is out of a threequarter sister to that great racehorse and sire, CROUPIER, her dam, ROOD, also being by SURVEYOR. This nice type of mare is safe m foal to an early service to tiie very successtul Alton Lodge sire, REVELATION, by the Derby winner, MANNA.
