Attempt To Oust Italians In Pola

(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 1. Three days’ rioting in Pola culminat-' ed in an attempt to oust the remainder of the Italian population from the town by the simple expedient of cutting them off from their food supply, says the Trieste correspondent, of The Times.

Women, after demonstrations ostensibly staged in protest against high costs of living, smashed several Italian food stores and picketed the remainder. The correspondent adds that it is obvious that pro-Yugoslav organisations- are attempting to force the remaining Italians to premature evacuation and to place the Allied Military Government in the position of having no men available for Pola’s administration except those the Communist Party recommends.
