Old Girls, Kara Draw In Seasons Best Match
THE best ladies’ hockey seen this season resulted when Old Girls and Kara drew 4 all at Kensington Park on Saturday. Because games had been postponed at the beginning of the season, fixtures were the same as on the previous Saturday.
To make amends for last week's defeat Kara was all out to win from the first bully. The outcome was an excellent game by two experienced teams,, playing good, clean hockey.
Rovers played two short and play was thus inclined to be scratchy.
Springfield and Cld Boys had an exciting duel in the third men’s A game.
A noticeable feature was the positional play of both sets of halves. Scoring was evenly distributed among the Old Girls forwards line, both wingers (Misses C. McGregor and P. Thomas) the centre (Miss P. Rasmussen) and the inside right (Miss D. Franks) netting. Kara scorers were Misses R. Attwood 2, E. McKegg and A. Snelgar. Other Indies’ A. grade games resulted: —
At half-time Springfield led but, as a result of an improvement in the second half, Old Boys changed the score to 3—2 in their favour. J. Palmer, who netted both goals, and R. Drafiin played well for .Springfield. For Old Boys C. Hughes, R. Mullins and R. Fyfe scored. B Grade Games
In the men’s B section Otaika 5 (R. Steedman 3, J. Marsh, T. Parr) , defeated Rovers B 0.
Hikurangi 5 (Misses I. Ferguson 4. 11. Brighouse) defeated High School 0. Hikurangi played its usual steady game and kept High School busy with continuous attacks.
The half-time score wa| I—o with both sides playing well, but the second spell showed Otaika superior. Other results Were:—
City 4 (Misses O. Fleming, L. Pohe, J. Hay and N. Pitman) outplayed Public Services who were unable to scoje. Ramblers Lucky
Ruatangata 6 (G. Shepherd 3, D. Drake, M. Drake, R. Attwood) defeated Old Boys B 0. Ruatangata were greatly superior. Maungakaramea 7 (C. Bint 5, R. Thorne, L. Thorne) defeated Maungatapere 3 (P. Jenkins 2. W. CroucherL Maungakaramea turned on outstanding hockey, C. Bint, in particular, played an exceptional game.
I Ramblers were lucky to defeat High School 2—l in the men’s A section. Half-time score was I—all with both sides having an equal share of the game. M. T. Khan scoring for School and C. Jackson for Ramblers. Ramblers forced the pace in the second half and C. Jackson scojed another good goal. School were unable to retaliate largely through E. Pearson’s play in goal.
Mangapai 3 (L. Cotton 3) defeated Rovers 1 (N. Johnson).
Play was fairly even in the first half but Mangapai had the better of it in the second.
! In the ladies’ intermediate and B grade match Hikurangi v High School a I—all1 —all draw resulted. Miss G. Turnbull scored Hikurangi’s first goal of the season. Miss J. Ferguson netted for School. Vittiis 5 (Misses J. Stubbs 3, V. Pitman, B. Guest) defeated YWCA 0. Maungakaramea anu Maungatapere ladies drew 2—all. Misses M. Stevens and V. Blackstock scored for Maungatapere and Miss M. Thorne, 2, for Maungakaramea.
