To Moke fighting Services Attractive

CANBERRA, May 16. From July 1, higher rates of pay will be introduced in Australia’s three fighting services. The annual cost will be £3.000.000. The object is to induce men to make the services their career. Details were announced today by the Minister of Defence (Mr Dedman). Recruits’ pay is to consist of 10 / - a day without deferment, in addition to rations, quarters and clothing, over a seven-day week. Minor recruits are to receive 8/6 a day for the first six months and 11/- a day thereafter.
