21st Birthday Party For Miss M. Edlington

Miss Marjorie Edlington, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. A. Edlington of 5 School Lane, Whangarei, celebrated her 21st birthday* on Saturday night at a party held by her parents at the Vinery Lane Hall. About 150 guests took part in the dancing before the liberal supper set out on four long tables was served. During supper mention 'was made of Miss Edlington’s popularity by Air A. Thompson, while Mr C. Brunker, on behalf of the guests, referred to the pleasure all felt at being present, and thanked the Edlington family for their generosity in providing such an excellent evening. The toast-master, Mr Thompson, spoke of Mr and Mrs Edlington’s popularity as neighbours and wished Aliss Edlington good luck for the future. In reply, Miss Edlington thanked her parents for the splendid party, and all for their attendance and for the many presents she had received. At the end of her speech the 21 candles on the two-tier cake were blown out and she was accorded cheers after “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” had been sung. At the conclusion of supper dancing was resumed until midnight when the evening ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”

Mr R. Aletcalf was M.C. and Mr R. Goodison was at the piano. An extra was played bv Mr T. Weir.
