Milk Treaters, Drivers To Stop Work
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. This Day. Industrial unrest here again has been underlined —this time by milk pasteurisers and drivers in the Dairy Workers’ Union. It was revealed today that they have decided to call a stop-work meeting in the Trades Hall at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. About 130 men from four milk treatment plants in Auckland will attend to discuss the delay in the new award and consider means of expediting it. The increased wages application to the Arbitration Court probafily will be discussed also.
On this aspect the Auckland Trades Council wants an immediate decision by the national council of the Federation of Labour.
A meeting of the national council to re-examine the wages stabilisation policy has been called for May 7 but the Auckland council has decided, at the request of the national council to hold a special meeting immediately to determine the policy on the wages apolication to the Arbitration Court. Further unrest is evident in the decision of the Auckland Drivers’ Union to hold a stop-work meeting on Wednesday to consider wages application matters. The meeting is now scheduled for 9 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. so that transport for city workers will not be too greatly affected. All bus services will cease on Wednesday morning until the meeting is concluded.
