Rotary Forum In Whangarei
Some 40 Rotarians are visiting Whangarei to attend the two-day forum arranged by the Rotary Club of Whangarei. The visitors come from the Auckland, Newmarket, Pukekohe. Olaluthu and Dargaville clubs. The forum opened in the St John Ambulance Hall last night when over 00 Rotarians attended a discussion on the proposition: “Is Industrial CoPartnership Desirable.” The main speakers were Messrs L. A. Eady and E. D. Thomas, of the Auckland club.
The former took the affirmative and the latter the negative.
Other members later joined in the discussion, and it was evident that Rotarians, many of them employers of labour, were concerned over employeremployee relationships and were anxious to reach a solution mutually satisfactory to employer and employee. The vice-president of the Whangarei club (Mr J. P. Woods) presided over last night's meeting, the president (Mr S. H. Phillips) being indisposed.
ENTERTAINMENT PLANS UPSET The weather upset the Whangarei club’s arrangements to entertain the visitors.
Golfers were to have been the guests of the Whangarei Golf Club this afternoon, the Whangarei Bowling Club had made greens available, arrangements had been made for tennis players to play at the Mairtown courts, and scenic drives had been planned. It appeared this morning that it would be necessary to cancel these arrangements. This afternoon an indoor bowls tourney was played in the St John Ambulance Hall.
The forum will conclude with another meeting this evening.
