Legal Battle For Murphy
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. “I am not going to be tried by the body which has already been the cause of my being publicly defamed, and that’s flat,” said the boxer Bos Murphy in a statement last night. “Unless I get a proper judicial inquiry I am going to sue Mr M. F. Brosnan, who supplied one of the affidavits in the court proceedings, and the council for defamation.
“I only want a fair chance to clear myself before an impartial court,, and I shall only claim nominal damages. “So if they plead privilege the public will know what to think of them. If they do not plead privilege they will have to prove their accusations.” HONORARY MANAGER
Murphy, before making the foregoing remarks, said that the public would recall that he refused to attend a council meeting because his solicitors wrote to the council to say that in their opinion the proceedings were out of order.
For that the council suspended him. “I am determined to fight my legal battle to the bitter end and with all my resources to see if I can repair some of the damage done to my manager, Mr P. Galvin, and so repay him a little for his unselfish devotion and loyalty. “In all these times Mr Galvin did not receive a penny for his services. His capacity was purely honorary.”
