Australian Women Barred From Indonesia
(Rec. 1.30.) CANBERRA, This Day. Australian wives of Indonesians were not being allowed to accompany their husbands to Indonesia, said the Minister for Immigration (Mr Calwell). Australian women now in Indonesia were asking for financial aid tc return to Australia. ’ Mr Calwell said the Australian Government was repatriating the Indonesians at its own expense.
The Government had originally intended that wives and children should go, but the Indonesian authorities had asked the Government not to allow Australians to leave at present.
