Extra Electricity Cuts Yesterday

When one of the two power lines supplying the Whangarei Borough and Portland b/oke one and a half miles from the Wairua Falls station at 2.30 p.m. yesterday, emergency cuts had to be made. Power was supplied to Whangarei and Portland through the remaining line. At the Wairua Falls station yesterday there was insufficient water to operate the three generators, and only two of them were producing. Because of the rain causing early darkness, the total load became the highest for the season and it was necessary to make sectional cuts of about half an hour each. These cuts lasted from 2.30 p.m. until 9.45 p.m. Repairs were effected to the line by Wairua Falls men at 1 a.m. this morning, and both lines are now in action.
