Inauguration Of Canada Air Route

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Before the first direct air service between New Zealand and Canada is inaugurated from Whenuapai at 9 a.m. next Friday there will be a short ceremony at which the Postmaster-General (Mr Hackett) will hand over the first mailbag to Captain Ivan Holyman, general manager of Australian National Airways, which is running the service under contract for British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines. Among the passengers on the first flight will be the New Zealand High Commissioner for Canada (Mr J. Thorn) and delegates to the international civil aviation conference in Montreal. On the evening preceding the flight a dinner will be held in Auckland.
