His Excellency the Governor General (Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C.) presided at a meeting of the Waitangi National Trust Board at Government House yesterday morning. Viscount and Viscountess Bledisloe were also present at the meeting. His Excellency attended a meeting of the historical committee of the board in the afternoon. Viscount Bledisloe, as the envoy of the Grand Prior in the British Realm of the Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester, installed His Excellency as the Prior of the Order in New Zealand in St Mary's Cathedral last night.
Mrs Ethel Harris, of Wellington, is visiting Mr and Mrs A. G. Langdon, of Percy Street, Whangarei. A keen welfare worker, Mrs Harris is also a member of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee and president of the women’s section of the Wellington branch of the Labour Party.
Lieutenant-Colonel .W. F. Titchener, M.C., has handed over command of the 27th New Zealand Battalion, after seven years af almost continuous service with that unit. At a ceremonial parade of the battalion at Yamaguchi, Japan, the salute was taken by Colonel Titchener and Major R. Hollis, M.C., who has been appointed commanding officer.
