Man Hurled Through Air

Philip Wehi, aged 42, was hurled high into the air yesterday when a wire rope which he was handling suddenly became taut. With others, Mr Wehi was winding a wire rope on to a tractor from a winch at the Kauri Timber Company's mill, Whangaruru. Sufficient, had been wound on to the drum and Mr Wehi was about to cut the slack wire when the clutch was applied to the tractor. The wire which Mr Wehi was handling straightened up, catching him about the waist and propelling him about 10 feet through the air. Landing on his head he suffered concussion, but his most serious injuries are internal, his liver being affected. He is progressing well at the Whangarei District Hospital. Mr Wehi’s home is at Pakaraka. Falling from a stationary truck at the Tauraroa school sports yesterday, John Irvine broke both bones of his right forearm and was admitted to the Whangarei Hospital.
