Publication will be resumed on Saturday. i GRADER upsets phones When a road grader damaged a cable yesterday afternoon telephone communication between Kamo and Whangarei was severed. The relieving telegraph engineer at Whangarei (Mr T. Williams) said tiffs morning that 260 subscribers in the Kamo and Kamo Road areas were without telephone service from 3.30 to 830 p.m. As soon as the damage was reported immediate steps were taken to restore the service. LOW MARCH RAINFALL Only 1.31 in. of rain was recorded in Kaitaia during March, according to figures given by Mr J. Knox, compared with 3.36 in. for the same month last year and an average fall of 2.92 in. The month’s heaviest fall of .65in. was recorded on Sunday March 23. To date this year the total rainfall in Kaitaia has been 3.84 in., compared with 5.98 in. for the same period last year and an average for these three months of 11.2 in. EASTER PETROL SERVICE All Whangarei petrol stations except one will close at 5 o’clock this afternoon. The Northern Tyre Company’s service station will remain open until 8 p.m. to enable motorists to obtain enough petrol to last until Saturday. All stations will be closed tomorrow as Good Friday is one of the three days in the year on whicji no petrol can be sold. On Saturday the stations will reopen from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The Northern Tyre Company will be open on Saturday afternoon, Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday for emergency calls. Now that the autumn weather is approaching there is a noticeable increase in the demand ror winter materials to piece suits and coats at Henry Wilson’s.
