Ley Expected To Appeal
(Rec. 10 a.m.) LONDON,'Mar. 28, Lawrence John Smith, who, with Thomas John Ley. was found guilty on March 24 of the murder of John Mcßain Mudie, has lodged an appeal.
It is understood Ley is lodging an appeal later. Photographs of Thomas John Ley which hang in the offices of the Ministers of Justice and of Labour and Industry will not be removed. Ley was Minister of Justice in New South Wales from April 13, 1922, to June 17, 1925, and Minister of Labour and Industry and Minister of Education for one day. in December, 1921. The Minister of Justice (Mr R. R. Downing) said: “The photographs of the various Ministers of Justice for more than 50 years, hang in my office, and removal of Ley’s photograph would destroy this historical record.
“You might as well erase his name from thq Parliamentary records.” The Minister of Labour and Industry (Mr Hamilton Knight) said the series of photographs was an historical record. “Ley’s photograph is among them,” he said, “and there it will remain.”
