More Drastic Power Cuts Are Likely
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !
COMPULSORY CUTS in Whangarei power supply have been found insufficient. _ ‘ Consumers have been leaving switches turned on, with the result that consumption has jumped immediately cuts have been restored. More drastic cuts are probable.
This information was given this morning by the Whangarei Borough electricity engineer (Mr W. J. Dawson).
.Last Monday at midnight the whole of the borough was placed on a powercut roster, the service to various areas being disconnected at scheduled times. The savings in power effected by this means have not been as good as was expected, Mr Dawson said. First day’s results had been excellent, but subsequently consumption had increased 1 .
“It is quite apparent that consumers are leaving switches turned on ready for the time when power is' again available,” he contniued.
“In an interval of one minute the power consumption jumped by 30 per cent. That proved just what was happening. ,
“If the people would spread their cooking, like we have tried to spread the period of cuts we would get better results.
■ “If they would only cooperate it would be easier for everyone, but I am afraid it is going to be harder. “We will have to make more drastic cuts to meet the situation.”
