Rioters Use Bombs In Calcutta
(Rec. 1.30 p.m.) CALCUTTA. Mar. 28.
The authorities called out troops as a precautionary measure after it was revealed that rioters were using bombs.
A check of hospitals tonight shows that nine were killed and 70 injured in the day’s rioting. One body was recovered from a sewer.
A Government communique said the number of incidents increased with nightfall. There were several cases of rioting, arson, acid-throwing, and bomb-throw-ing. Reuter’s Patna correspondent reports that Professor Abdul Bari, labour 'leader and president of the Bihar Provincial Congress Committee, was waylaid and killed near Patna today.
