Nearer Crisis Holland Says
(pecial) WELLINGTON. This Day. National Party members at their caucus yesterday made a unanimous decision to ask the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) to summon an emergency session of Parliament at once.
“The Prime Minister declared that there is no urgent reason for calling together Parliament before June, yet the affairs of the country approach a crisis,” said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland).
“We face industrial turmoil and grave economic issues.
“Industry is thrown o ut of balance as a result of the breakdown in the electric power supply. Labour troubles grow, problems affecting production increase, and the housing situation worsens.
“Government policy is at the root of all these evils. “Mr Nash has gone overseas, and we have to wait until he is there before the country learns of the polity to which it is committed. “Parliament has a right to be consulted on such issues as Imperial preference and other fiscal matters. “It is outrageous that the Government should ignore Parliament. “Another pressing question justifying an immediate session of Parliament is the need for a decision on Bretton Woods.
“The excuses offered by the Prime Minister failed to impress the Opposition; hence its insistence on an cmcigency session.”
