READERS WRITE

As a parent of a Whangarei scout I read with interest and a degree of incredulity your article in Monday’s issue concerning SCOUT the selection of JAMBOREE Kaitaia scouts for the Paris Jamboree. Your article supplies a reason for the fact that no boys from Whangarei are attending, but it is a reason so empty as to be meaningless. I feel that it is in fairness to the parents of scouts, and in the interest of the movement in Whangarei, that the reasons should be made public why no boys are attending from this dis-trict.--••PARENT.”

fWhen this letter was referred to Mr L. E. Philpott, district commissioner of the Boy Scouts’ Association, this morning, he stated that the sole reason why no boys were nominated for the jamboree from the Whangarei district was the expense, approximately £250. Because the association will be making an appeal lor the district camp site fund at an early date, it was felt that it would not be fair to launch a separate appeal for funds to send a party of scouts to Paris. —Ed.J

“DEAR BOB” You and Peter both have “had it,” So has dear old grandpa Nash. Better had j'ou all departed Long before you’d done your dash. But like the drought you lingered

with us Until we all got deadly tired Now we feel that we must tell you It is time that you were fired. So roll your swag. Bob. and get going Take along your cobbers, too Give a chance to real live Kiwis To clear the mess and start anew For here we have a land of plenty Where we could live with greatest ease Bungled up and short of all things By you blokes from overseas.. So pack your swag and drift along

Bob And don’t forget the other two. —WALLIE HALES
