Whether or not it is a criterion of the ever-increasing tempo of the mode cf life during the past 50 years, one notable fact emerged from the annual reunion of the Northland branch of the South African War Veterans' Association in Whangarei last night.

As each member rose in turn during the roll-call, gave his number, name and service—up to five campaigns—it was noticeable that with two or three exceptions all heads were adorned with a hirsute growth totally (incompatible with the years. In contrast, the covering on the heads of some of the visitors—-ex-servicemen of the first and second world wars—was rapidly disappearing. In many ways the veterans had the advantage of the two succeeding generations of warriors.
